SBI has a free e-book called Make Your Links Work (MYLW) which explains how to go about your link building program. You sound onto it with the social sites but I wonder if you've been submitting to online directories as well? I pay a submission company to do it for me (auto submission software helps but it's still a manual job) for something like $20 for 200 directories in the PR3+ category.
Also, keep pumping out quality content that is keyword-rich. That will help the search engines notice you and keep readers coming back for more. I realize you may be doing this already but thought I'd mention it just in case!
