Well said. The first rule of friendship is to not try to change your friend. The soul is what the soul is and it changes into whatever it wishes to. I guess when friendships last very long, it is only because both the people involved change together in a compatable fashion. Sometimes this is not so, and you must just let things happen. Even if it means letting go of your friendship.

Change is inevitable. Change with things, instead of trying to change things.
