Default Recovering from a toxic manager

A couple of years ago I worked under a toxic manager who did a real number on me. It wasn't a pleasant experience and I wonder if it had some lasting effects on me.

I swore to myself I would never e v e r be treated like that again.

Fast forward to present day. My current boss is great couldn't have asked for a better person to work for. However the nature of my work puts me into conflicts with other mgrs and persons of authority in my company. When these other mgrs start acting like my old toxic boss did I get tense and prepare for a verbal brawl. It's a defense as a result of how I was treated in the past.

Also, I limit my work opportunities based on who I might work with. If I know the mgrs are on a power trip, I avoid them. Not b/c I am scared of them but because I have no time for such people in my life any more. Again, I won't be treated like that again

For those who have worked under a toxic manager; How did you recover once you were in a new job, did you react the same way??
Am I over reacting?
