I like that image.
When I feel emotion, I investigate whether it's in the moment (HALT, hungry, angry, lonely, tired; feeling something nice, smelling something nice, seeing something nice etc.) or whether it's old stuff. If it's old, it's ego.
When it's ego, I say hi (to the old memory like an old relative you'll never get rid of) and evaluate my present, in-the-moment-circumstances with an eye toward my visualization of my goals.
I used to say it simply, "Change the picture".
You know what else is hard -- responding to posts at Steve Pavlina. It's hard to stay in gift-giving or idea-sharing and not to stray into ego-promoting
