I am personally considering switching to peeing sitting down all the time because (maybe it's because I'm uncircumcised) I can never predict what direction and at what velocity it will come out at and I make messes sometimes. I don't know if this is you, but it could be that there's a legitimate reason for your girlfriends request.
That said, as others are suggesting, it sounds like there might be a bigger issue at play here.
