I didn't get a chance to read all the posts in this thread, so not sure if someone already mentioned this before. But google recently announced that they will be releasing Google chrome OS, which is essentially a custom google windows environment on top of existing Linux kernel.

In simple words, it will be a Linux distribution made by Google (much like Ubuntu). This is a very exciting time for Linux Lovers (like myself), because finally we are getting some major backing from a corporation who has both the money and the power to promote it to mainstream users in the desktop/netbook market.

I use Linux - Windows - OSX on a daily basis and have a soft spot for Linux.
