 Sounds very encouraging!
It's great you're looking into options. Speaking to a guidance counsellor sounded very useful. You might ask this person for advice on a letter you write to explain to counselors why you think you need the scholarship. I would suggest listing ideas in point form and then write it in long-hand later.
Before you assume you need another option, I would encourage you to see this one through. It sounds like a very good chance it could work for you.
