For me a shortcut is going out in nature. Where I live I can either go to a huge, beautiful park with tons of trees and people walking their dogs and just take it all in, or drive down to the beach. Do that consistently enough and you'll be much more relaxed. The thing you CAN'T do is stay inside all day (which I have a tendency to do), we need nature, and to be around other people. Our species is just designed that way. We feel more comfortable when we are in little tribes outdoors.
That will put you in at least a much more receptive state. If I go to the park and listen to some personal development audiobook on my iPod, sit on a park bench, after 25 minutes of that, I am lightyears ahead emotionally, than if I would have listened to several hours of it in my home.
So I think nature, every day, is important. Sometimes I'll drive to the beach and just hang out for a few minutes, long enough to focus on the waves enough that my mind calms down, to relax me, then go back home. Makes a world of difference.
