Last but not least Voodoo LIKES- Reverence of ancestors, strong respect for forefathers and foremothers
- Reconnect with West African roots
- Reconnect with third world communities of Haiti and Latin America
- Misunderstood, possible result of slavery (root for the underdog)
- Aesthetics (bright colors of foods, each god has a brilliant color, food, and item)
- Humanistic towards women (priests and priestesses equal, gods and goddesses equal, main god has a mother)
- Friendly towards gays (Oshun is the patron saint of lesbians)
- Would work well with Christianity (syncretism)
DISLIKES- Difficult to find community in the US
- Hard to explain to people including many urban Africans, Haitians, and Latinos
- Don't know as much about the religion as I ought if I'm going to be in it, would have to do a lot of research and interviewing to make sure I'm not being inaccurate
- Difficult to find opportunities to practice it in the US
