Reconnect with West African roots
Reconnect with third world communities of Haiti and Latin America
Misunderstood, possible result of slavery (root for the underdog)
Aesthetics (bright colors of foods, each god has a brilliant color, food, and item)
Humanistic towards women (priests and priestesses equal, gods and goddesses equal, main god has a mother)
Friendly towards gays (Oshun is the patron saint of lesbians)
Would work well with Christianity (syncretism)

DISLIKES

Difficult to find community in the US
Hard to explain to people including many urban Africans, Haitians, and Latinos
Don't know as much about the religion as I ought if I'm going to be in it, would have to do a lot of research and interviewing to make sure I'm not being inaccurate
Difficult to find opportunities to practice it in the US
