You'd usually want to know where the bomb is, or get codes to disarm it. And yes torture does work. The real problem is you might have the wrong guy, but that's another question..
I think aligning yourself with the principles of truth and peace
literally at all times is merely foolish and naive.
Different situations require a different response, which is why you have to use your intelligence to decide.
The principles should guide your life, help build your character and assist in making the important life decisions, but they can't be used to blindly follow in all situations.
