Um... I think actually there is a considerable argument in quantum physics about whether the act of observation is really key. AFAIK the majority view (with Dr Wolf in the minority) is that the key is the act of measurement, and whether or not a conscious observer reads the measurement doesn't matter. This isn't testable, of course
