Well, when you bond like Steve & Erin (or Angela & Danger Man), you exchange so much energy that one becomes more like the other. So it wouldn't be consuming but rather more like juggling.
I read something funny: Don't have sex with anyone who you wouldn't want to be more like (because so much energy is exchanged, you would absorb a little bit of that person's characteristics.) Maybe the same is true for eating: don't eat any cow or pig you don't want to be more like!
