Though, I never officially joined Steve’s experiment (I have thought about it tho), I say a similar things everyday and I feel it working and have started to see results.
I have found two issues that many people seem to have when I see people take about money. Both Steve has covered before in post that do not directly link to Million Dollar Experiment, but are important none the less.
1. Don’t focus on the negative. Even if you say the affirmation 10 times a day, if you spend 2 hours a day worrying about your finances, for the 5 minutes you spent being positive you spend 120 being negative about it. By constantly thinking about the bad, you are drawing that to you.
I realize when you have money issues, it is hard not to think about. But does thinking about the fact you have bill you can’t pay change anything for the good? No. So only have positive thoughts about it and positive thoughts on what you can do to improve it. I myself, every month around the 15th before the next month starts, make a plan for the next month.
What about will my bills be?
What will my credit card bill be?
Rent/mortgage?
Income?
Car insurance?
Etc.
Once I plan it, I let it go because I can’t change my expenses (I already keep very low expenses under 1500 a month for everything because I have no debt). I then focus my energy every day on focusing on how to make more money by contributing to society not to paying bills. By not thinking about expenses, I focus my energy on being the person who has money… which brings us two number 2.
2. I heard (and I wont quote the statistic because I don’t remember it and who knows how accurate it is) that many people who win the lottery go bankrupt. People heavily in debt get enough money to pay off all their debt via inheritance or whatever and months later they are back in debt even worse then they were before. However, if you attract money and know what to do with it, you can take that inheritance or whatever and run with it, using it to your advantage.
Because I stop making my focus on paying bills, and instead set my focus on making money and the good I can do with it, I attract more money. I am well on my way to being a millionaire and I am in my early 20s. But it was not always like that. I was raised very poor (for American standards), and I see the people who I grew up with who have not changed at all. I could give them a beautiful house and they would destroy it. Someone I know quite well, I gave them a beautiful bedroom set because they needed it, and within weeks it was trashed. Who you are is who you are. Who do you need to be to have a million dollars?
I am not saying spend on an expensive car, etc. Just how would someone who had the level of income deal with life? How would someone who had the income you want address their bills? How would he/she view money? How would he/she view home?
I don’t focus on my bills. They are what they are. I keep them down. But I make the game about how can I make more money. I focus on that. I focus on what I can do with more money. What are my long term investing plans? What do I want to do with my life to make me having that much money be a benefit to society? Of course I have my answers to these questions
