Beware of who you call "the pros". As you probably already know, medical schools don't teach all that much nutrition....let alone fitness. Doctors, like Dr. Atkins can be the biggest nutrition quacks out there and many diet book authors don't even have those credentials. I think someone said that you will never go broke telling people what they want to hear. People want to hear they can lose fat without making any sacrifices. Most pop diets are just a variation on a theme "just do this trick, you can eat all you want, and lose weight". Even the low fat diets, which tend to be based on solid science say this, but even if you do it right ( high fiber, unprocessed carbs ) at some point you will want something you can't have....fat, some caloric sauce etc.

Yes and no. I am going to do it everyday now that the HD has given me a way to put the daily fluctuations into perspective. Beyond all of the other benefits it is a great way to keep weight control in my mind. Most people never change habits simply because they forget to work on them.

However, I don't recommend daily weights for most people. Most people are never going to put the effort into understanding feeback, understanding weighted averages, or taking the time to record their calories. Weight Watchers is basically calorie control combined with peer support and they use a point system because using real calories ( another point system ) is too complicated for the general public's temperament about learning things.

For people who have not learned or who will not do what the HD calls for daily weighings are a from of self flagellation that will most likely kill their motivation.
