Focus on the present, pay attention to your senses including your inner body, meditate if you wish, find something you enjoy doing that requires a high degree of attention (something that you are afraid usually works better), hear music and pay attention to it, do anything really and pay 100% to it.

The thing about thinking too much is always using the same neural paths in your head. Using different parts of your brain helps, so that you aren't always energizing those pathways. With some time of paying attention to things you are doing you start to think less about things you don't actually want.

Personally, it's a matter of focusing. You can even try to focus on that thinking, pay attention to it and accept, just 'hear' it.
