To add to the helpful suggestions above, other Forum-ites have successfully eliminated their less helpful beliefs using processes like EFT, NLP, TAT, affirmations and Byron Katie's The Work (to name a few). A Search of the Fora will turn up those success stories for you.

Others here have used EFT and Byron Katie's The Work successfully in these situations where the root cause of the no-longer-useful beliefs are not obvious.
I used the phrase "no longer useful" because it's been my experience that we adopt our beliefs to serve us (to protect us, to make sense of the world, to win approval of another, to name a few). No matter what technique you choose, I would strongly suggest you examine whether you still get
any benefit from holding the belief in question, otherwise you will working against yourself. A simple (honest) dialogue with yourself is all that's necessary for such an examination.
If you do discover a benefit, I'm sure you'll come up with a strategy to provide yourself with that benefit without the negative consequences of the old belief. You could even ask that internal part of you that "benefits" if it might be willing to consider an alternative to the old belief, if only for a short period of time. (You "both" can always decide, if it's better for you, to go back to the old belief after the experiment.)
I hope this extra step will make your use of all these techniques much more effective, long-lasting and positive for you.
