No, that was me mining the original post for what I believe is the poster's intended result. But you may be right about it only being aimed at herself -- her intension is that she herself get with it in making a greater effort. That certainly seems to me to be what persephonevii had in mind, even though she used the "you" word.

for, though. Effort to do what, exactly? Did you ever have a teacher tell you, "You should make more of an effort!" She didn't realize you WERE making an effort -- an effort to something other than what she thinks you *should.*
