To me, meditation is non-goal oriented (or at least, the meditation itself is the goal) . It has one purpose: to quiet your mind so that you can learn to perceive without words running around in your head labeling everything. I see it as a different process than visualization, although they can have a similar outcome: increase of synchronicities.
Which is why I do both. When I wake up in the morning, I don't visualize. I just light a candle, stare at the flame for about fifteen minutes and do my best to just focus on the flame and not think too much. And that's all I do, it's an end to itself. Day after day I do this, and I have moments where all thoughts stop and time stands still.
It's great for relaxation, and it's also a great way to stop that constant mind-chattering, and if you do it in the morning, you've perhaps limited the amount of mind chatter you'll have for the rest of the day.
Visualization is very goal oriented, so I like to do that at a different time than my meditation. Visualization is the process of being able to see something consistently without the mind spasms giving you different things to see/worry about that weren't a part of your intended visualization. It's the skill of being able to deliberately see what you want to see.
I think meditation can help with visualization. The meditation quiets the mind down. The visualization takes advantage of the quiet and has a greater chance of being "heard" because there are no more mental distractions to dilute it.

And yes, I have noticed this, either while meditating or visualizing, the synkros pick up. It's a neat experience. The key here is to do it consistently. I'm good at keeping that 15 minute morning meditation, but doing the visualization daily requires a little more self-discipline on my end.
It's amazing the amount of ways we can talk ourselves out of a simple daily 15 minute relaxation exercise. I wonder, maybe that resistance is the ego sensing its about to lose control of your life?
