What a misconception you have there, what is this but hogwash? Has it ever occurred to you that Christianity owes its foundation on the Jewish religion which pre-dates Mithraism? What is wrong with your prejudiced history, as you must be well aware Mithraism had no concept of the death and resurrection of its god and no place for any concept of rebirth -- at least during its early stages...During the early stages of the cult, the notion of rebirth would have been foreign to its basic outlook. Come on! Finish the verse, your selective obsession is affecting your perspective, why do you choose to jump verse 9 of the same chapter? It reads;
“ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

This is becoming more interesting; what does the exercise of freedom of choice make you? Ooops! Speak of double standards!
