I am a newbie too, and in Toronto. I would lvoe to meet. May I suggest a venue? There is a What a Bagel at Yonge/Eglinton seconds from the subway. My writing group used to go there because it has both real food for those that want it, and inexpensive cookies and snacks for those that prefer that. Sunday mornings don't work for me (I teach Sunday school) but other than that, evenings work.
