I think represent a better kind of hero that exists today , the 'evil' characters are strong in the old movies - but these days for example - kevin costner's robin hood - the evil character was more compelling while costner was 'boring' compare that to Errol Flynn in the 1940 classic!

I should add, for a pick-me-up there's nothing quite like PG Wodehouse books or on DVD the jeeves/wooster series - fun, lighthearted comedy.
