I've had this happen to me where a friend would no longer be a 'friend' on FB.. and neither one of us had initiated such a request to 'un-friend'...
I've seen this happen for others as well, and your case is no different. I don't know why it happens.. but it's been happening recently to many people...
You can try writing a complaint to FB to see what's up..

Hey, this happened to me too, but since the friends who disappeared were actually strangers, I thought they had just cleaned me out of their list.
