You've hit on two of a few reasons I have never gone the gym route (it also doesn't help that HS gym played a major role in my bullying experience). That one's going to take some work and advice. Not the #1 hurdle on my list, but I suppose I must face it eventually.

With the 'coaching' of a new friend who's the enthusiastic type, I am starting to lay the groundwork for 'discomfort zone #1'. One mess at a time, as I like to say...
As for good shape? I think maybe I 'manifested' that thread about getting rid of a gut (haven't read it yet though). Not a big gut, mind you, but stubborn.
