The Burn Journals. Bottom line is that he instantly felt regret.
Indeed, the saying is that people, when they make the jump (or however they attempt it), immediately are overcome with an intense desire to live and a realization that there was nothing in their life that couldn't be remedied, except for stepping off the ledge.
