Remember, the darker your skin the more sunlight is needed to achieve the same Vit-D generation levels. If you're the blackest of the black, it can be "bone suicide" to not get lots of sunlight, perhaps hours a day may be optimal. If you're the whitest of the white, a few minutes a day does a lot more than you think.
Remember, sunscreen blocks the essential UV rays for Vit-D generation, and is toxic. One needs not reach sun-burn levels to get adequate sunlight (i think). There is, however, some sort of nutrient which supposedly doubles the amount of sun one can take without burning. Mike Adams talks about it a lot.
Also remember the sunlight must not be filtered through anything, including windows (they block the essential UV rays).
