Associating need with fear is a mistake. "Need" means someone is fulfilling your needs, not that without them you would die, or should fear to lose them.
It's like owning a car. You need the car, but do you fear to lose it? If you fear losing your car, having your car stolen, whatever, the FEAR ITSELF is the problem, NOT the need. There is nothing wrong with needing a car.
The same applies to relationships. Just because someone is filling a need in your life does not mean you are a slave and does not mean you should fear losing them. If you lose them, you'll adapt, find someone else, or whatever.
Being attached to independence is itself an attachment. The "need" to always feel totally independence is based on fear, and fear is the delusion.
