Some information
Hello,
I see a lot of people have misinformation about what it means to be schizophrenic. I have schizophrenia. I have lived with it most of my adult life.
It is a disease of the brain. And yes people with schizophrenia can read, write and function and return to society, at least some of us can. Medication and cognitive therapy help.
Now back to my purpose of replying which is to give you all some information about what schizophrenia is:
It is about hallucinating voices outside of your head, frequently--ie every day.
It is about cognitive and communication deficits: Difficulty in speaking in a normal way--schizophrenics have what is called 'thought blocking' where the words elude us and also "word salad" where random illogical phrases pop out when we are trying to communicate and make sense.
Schizophrenics also have trouble concentrating and taking care of themselves.
As far as the psychic stuff: I think you can be psychic and normal and psychic and schizophrenic. I think they are two seperate things. I think a lot of people with schizophrenia have more intuitiveness but that does not make or break a diagnosis of schizophrenia.
