Agreed. My experience is that people are generally good, but that most people don't take the initiative to develop and express the good side of themselves to its fullest extent.

Dividing humanity into a tiny number of "world builders" and then the great selfish masses is a dangerous oversimplification. We all have some good in us. For some people, however, the good needs to be teased out a little more than for others. And for some people, the circumstances make it seem like goodness is a dead end. There's no doubt in my mind that humanity will take a long time to build what the OP calls "the great future". Which, of course, is a very vague concept which is yet to be defined.
