The name "Jesus Christ" IS a derivation. It's an Anglicization of the Greek "Iesous ho Kristos", which was itself a translation from the original name in Hebrew "Y'shu Mashiah" (where Y'Shu is short for "Yehoshua), meaning "Yehoshua the Anointed One".
There is nothing wrong with using the name "Jesus" but it certainly isn't the original form of the name; it's the translation we happen to use in English..
