Once you're in the vibration/noises/sound of rushing wind phase, you don't need to worry about whether you have to sleep or not. Basically, you don't. You can set off right from where you are.
Take it easy, don't get hyper about it, and don't try forcing anything, but the next time you're in that phase try letting your legs float up. I can guarantee it will not be your physical legs you will feel lifting.....And I can almost guarantee it will happen fairly effortlessly.
First time it happens, you'll get one of those "Oh wow! I did it!" feelings (which may result in coming straight back again)
So next time, let them float again, then play. Look at your legs, see if you can make out details (which would be on the physical legs or feet, such as scar/hairy legs/etc.....I'm a girl, so I always look at the state of my toenail varnish!) You will likely find that the astral counterpart of your legs is to the detail like the physical ones, though not always.
Ok, next, try arms. Let them float out. Try to 'see' again. Betwixt and between, you might find seeing difficult, but as you get more used to doing this, vision happens naturally.
Once you are used to floating the legs and arms out, try just floating your whole body out. Just aim for the bottom of your bed. If you get right out, I would stay in your room at first (if you can) until you get accustomed to all this stuff more.
There's more........of course, after this. But try the first steps first.

Also I would not worry about losing sleep over this. When you do get out, you will find the experience has energised you in a very positive way. It is as though there are regenerative forces which mysteriously support you. And you will benefit as if you'd had hours of sleep.
