Yes, I believe at some point there will be official translations and these translations will benefit an enormous amount of people. I have been in your position so many times already that I lost count, usually when I'm trying to talk to someone about a concept found in an article and think "Gosh, it would be so much easier if this person could read the article him/herself and then we could discuss it." It's is VERY frustrating,

If you want to privately translate them in order to be able to share it with a friend, I don't see a problem with that, as long as you don't publish it anywhere, as Steve owns copyright of the articles.
