I think your boyfriend is being immature about this. It seems like he has tried but asking you to give something up you love is not right. For me, if a bf asked me to give any person I love up, like friends or family (I don't have pets), that WILL be a deal-breaker. There are a billion different solutions possible. All it requires is some determination and creative thinking.
I know I am not helping with a solution. Maybe you could get some help from a pet-trainer? Try to understand why she acts this way and how he can seem less threatening to her.
