There's not a whole lot of choice when it comes to a legal alternative to cannabis, especially when you don't allow alcohol.
The meditation idea is good, but if you're looking for a quick fix, you're probably not going to be interested in taking this slow paced method.
I would recommend finding a smokable alternative, if your method must be in the form of a substance. The act of rolling a cig, and smoking it would be a nice change of pace for your day. The restricted oxygen intake will probably slow your response time, and mellow you out.
Whether this involves the "herbal" alternatives to cannabis, or whether it's simply a swisher, is up to you.
Ultimately though, I would recommend that you re-think your position on the idea that your ability to calm down will come in the form of a drug.
