Take a moment to reflect on where in your life you're holding yourself back because you're worried about losing the support of others. Anything come to mind?
As far as the support of readers is concerned, it's not an issue for me when I'm making personal changes. However, the level of reader interest does influence what topics I'll choose to write about. If I see there's a lot of interest in polyamory, it encourages me to write more about it. If I thought nobody cared, I'd still pursue it for myself, but I wouldn't write as much about it.
I play disc golf often, but I haven't written any articles about it because I doubt many people would care.
As for whether or not large numbers of people approve of what I'm doing, who the hell cares? Living for the approval of others is boring, pointless, and completely meaningless.
