I don't think that should be the case at all. I think social interactions will change as you age, but it shouldn't be "difficult." I think that if we run into a social stumbling block in our youth and we fail to push through it it becomes larger and larger as we get older, because the more experience you have with failing to do something, the harder it is. For example, if in middle school you stood on the side of the dance floor during dances and never got out there, it's going to be 10x harder when you're 23 and people are dancing. So, the barriers are still there, and it is still very possible to push through them, but they get bigger and bigger as you get older.
