I am sorry (but not surprised) you ran across this mentality. Bummer.
When one does energy work - (just for safety and innocence sake) I recommend they shield.
Are there demons? I have seen a few - that is my perception. I have never experienced opening a gateway for demons while meditating. (An ouji board is another matter - and it posted elsewhere in this forum).

I am sure there can be - I have run across some in my time. I just try to remember that we each have the right to our own beliefs....and we do not have to shove our beliefs down others throats.
If someone tries, I gently and quickly disengage and walk away....
