What's the best way to deal with rude negative people in the work environment, who constasntly criticize, belittle and moan about things?

I feel trapped in a negative environment. I work part-time to help fund my education, but I feel like a prisoner. The staff are uneducated and immature. Even the managers are no better. They're rude and devious, they expect you to bend over backwards to help them out, yet they're unwilling to give you any of their time.

I'm about acceptance and encouragement, but lots of other employees (including managers) never have a nice word to say, it's always an insult or criticism. Is this normal in the workplace? Should I just try to ignore it?
