Default Sewing machine

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got my sewing machine yesterday afternoon. I'm still a bit stunned.

I've wanted a heavy-duty old Singer; they were built to last forever, and in the unlikely event you do need to fix them, parts are easy to find and they're simple enough for DIY repairs. I first decided I wanted one over a year ago, and looked at a few on eBay, but at the time I couldn't justify spending the money. Plus, I didn't have time to sew. So I distinctly remember letting it go. I even told my mother, "When I'm ready for it, one will show up."
You got a real bargain there. It reminded me of a Singer sewing machine I bought. I'd wanted an old sewing machine for years but everytime I saw one it was priced out of my range. I really wanted a non-powered one. One day a couple of years back I started getting the urge to go to a local thrift shop. I wanted to take some donations so left it for a couple of days, until I could sort stuff out. On the third day, I was about to start sorting when I got the urge to go then and there. Left everything and went to the store. Sitting on the counter was a wooden singer box, I asked to see it and found a beautiful hand-cranked machine. It was marked at $90, I just had to have it and forked over the cash. Later I was telling a friend about it and she mentioned that she had seen the same machine a couple of days before, it was marked at $150. She had been considering buying it and I think she even went back but it was gone.

Not as much as your bargain but I got what I wanted within my price range. I wondered why someone would get rid of such a nice machine, when I got it home I figured they probably couldn't get it to sew properly - the needle was put in the wrong way. Once I turned the needle sideways it sewed beautifully.
