The 2.0 has fixed a few of the original Kindle's design flaws, though not all, and the price is going to come down, too. TechCrunch's guess about a release date is as good as any -- though I can't imagine they'll launch 2.0 before they've shipped their order backlog of the first version, which sounds like it won't be until 2Q. They'd have a lot of angry customers if they did that.
I was a huge fan of electronic readers back when the first came out some years ago -- I adored being able to highlight, search, etc. in all my books; read in the dark without a book light or eye strain; and take an entire bookshelf with me in my bag. The ability to instantly download a book for much less than the hardcover price is all that was missing from the e-reader's success before. This technology is the publishing industry's only shot at survival. |
the web has been talking about kindle 2.0 for months now. Originally web rumor was there would be 2.0 version by july of last year. Then after that passed, people speculated it would definitely be out for people to get for christmas season 2008.
And there was the speculation that the last two times they ran out and had huge backlogs, that they after they sold out their stock again would come out with a 2.0 and so far they have not.
Amazon people have said they are working on it but they dont know when it will be released. It could be a few months, it could be another year or longer.
I have no idea what amazon is doing, or when 2.0 kindle will make an appreciate. I thought about waiting when i got mine back in july since 2.0 was right around the corner said the web. i am glad i did not wait.
I have gotten a ton of use of of my kindle. and when a 2.0 comes out, maybe i will upgrade, but it depends on the new features. no one has details yet on what this new kindle is supposed to look like or have, so no one even knows what they are waiting for.
