I used to be able to carry on quite a lively conversation in German, but years of not using it have caused me to lose quite a bit of it. I can still read a bit -- mostly, I try to slog through academic journal articles -- and carry on conversations with myself in my head, but it's a far cry from where I used to be.

These days, my languages attentions are devoted to Classical Latin and Ancient Greek (mostly Attic and Koine, though I can also do Ionic; I have not yet tried tackling Homeric, Sapphic, etc.). Currently, I am working on my conversational Latin abilities (still working with Classical Latin, not ecclesiastical -- and avoiding neo-Latin except where necessary) and am gaining proficiency in reading Latin as Latin (not translating). My Greek abilities lag somewhat behind, but I'm making process on that one too.

At the moment, it's enough to keep me occupied, but I hope to pick up German again at some point in the future. No further language dreams at this point, although a good friend of mine is always suggesting that we should learn Elvish
