Default Why should I practice astral travel?

I have had the experience in the past of getting into spiritual/mystical type of practices - typically with other people similar to myself - and getting way, way, way carried away to the point of escapism. My friends and I would simply sit in a room in the dark and go off into our mystical adventures. It became kind of a dead-end... it's all we'd do, that and play AD&D. We didn't learn or grow as people and in some cases we did some very dangerous things.

Now, as a grounded adult... very grounded, to the point of feet being stuck in the ground...

Why as an explorer of conscious creation/intention, should I practice astral travel and mysticism?

What good will it do?

In the past, I basically did it for amusement.

Is there some higher-intentioned reason I should do it or something important I could learn from it?

Thanks.
