When I look at my stats a see a temporary astronomical boost is visitors, but if I investigate a bit deeper I find that few to none of those stumblers hang around long enough to have read the content.

Yes it is kinda fun, but not a great marketing strategy.
Topic-specific forums seem to work much better.

Yes i think i agree. What we need is genuine readership.
But then it is good for beginners to start 'marketing' their sites somewhere lik SU. If you lay hidden no one will find your site
