I second the idea of giving it to her early. Personally, I don't feel to compelled to give gifts simply because it's Christmas, so getting the gift early wouldn't matter to me, the thought behind the gift would matter more. I think it's really great to see a guy that really puts a lot of thought on how to express his love for his wife the way that you are Mark. And I wouldn't worry too much about the money either. A diamond is something that won't lose value like a car or a television will.
