Opera's always seemed quite fast to me, after the initial start up (around 5 seconds).

I stopped using Phoenix, as it was called, back in early 2003. It just wasn't doing it for me. I tried using Firefox 1.0 when that came out, and decided it was the right decision to leave it, and after about a week, went right back to Opera. Opera's excellent for "heavy" browsing as it easily handles 50+ windows (not tabs, it's MDI not tabbed) and easily trumps firefox for me. It all depends on what type of browser you are. I like to keep sometimes over 100 tabs open and not have my browser falter. I like the added knowledge with opera that if it does crash, or get closed by accident, it has saved my session so I don't have to worry about finding it all again.

And as for security, I believe firefox was named one of the most unsecure browser, based on the number of presently known and unpatched holes, as well as the rate that new holes were being found. It's no longer got the added advantage of being non-mainstream and not a target of those who want to exploit the holes, since it has, what, 10% market share?
