I still believe that providing value is important, but I no longer think that trying to provide value is required. Hmmm.... let me see if I can explain better. I have found that our Ego self is too stupid to actually realize what is really of value to the world, so trying to provide value is not necessarily the best path.
I really like your thinking here!

Although I wouldn't say that our Ego is too stupid. I would like to think that our Ego is too confused . And the reason is simple, there is too much to choose from!

If you were born a few decades ago, the amount of choices you had in your life, were far smaller than the abundance of choices you have today. Which has both good and bad sides to it. On one hand you have so many ways to express who you truely are, on the other hand, you have so many ways to express who you are . Basically, figuring out who you are, has become a lot tougher. And takes a lot more discipline. And that's why I really like Steve (or should I say, his articles ). You see, this guy (yes, I mean Steve) has made discipline, which in my opinion might just be one of the most important things in self creation, into an art. And has shown us the power you can have over your life/happyness by using it right.

It's funny, this article and the posts that followed, have made me think more deeply about my life, when I was under the impression I had things pretty much figured out. Steve, and all your replies, have made me realise, I'm just beginning (I know, I should've take the earlier hints, Steve ).

But back to your reply. The concept you put out, made me think about these questions:

- What if we are 1000 years ahead, and everybody is highly evolved, so that we, for example, don't need lawyers anymore? What then of the people who are sure that being a lawyer is their calling? Or is their calling "helping other" or "competing" and they like the bodily actions that go with being a lawyer?
- What if Steve was born 25 years earlier? No blogging then :P What would that mean for Steve? Or for all bloggers? Or wouldn't it change a thing, except the amount of people reached and thus the amount of money generated by it?

It made me connect this issue to the "soul-mate" issue, that I can debate about endlessly. Is there a soul-mate partner for you, or are there many for you? People like to think about their partner as being their soul-mate, the ONE, the ONLY. In my view, you can be happy with many partners. Perhaps the universe makes many happy possibilities available for you, and you have a good chance of being happy that way.
And perhaps with life, it is the same you have many paths that can make you happy? Many jobs that can give you fullfilment. Since all jobs are all the same in their core and come down to "creating", "interacting and helping others", "organising stuff", etc..

What if the path you choose, in itself won't be the thing that makes you happy? What if it's the commitment to that path? The discipline. The passion of your heart, while on that path. And that passion is the same thing that will lead to the creation of value.

Just a few thoughts
