As an aside, if everyone acted in accordance with their highest potential wouldn't it be possible that we'd have automated the whole trash-removal thing? Give people a means to destroy or recycle their own garbage and we don't need landfills or trucks anymore. We need to move in that direction anyway because we've got a limited amount of space for our garbage as it is.
