I am an Aussie but have been living in Thailand for the past 2 years and have been learning the language since I arrived here. I work in a sports club with 130 Thai staff, most of whom can't speak english and only 1 other foreigner like me. It's been quite a challenge since thai is a tonal langauge and english is not. The thai alphabet has 44 letters and each letter has 5 tones.
It feels good though when you start to talk to the locals in their own language and they actually know what you are talking about.
