I think the better question is this: Why would one want to gain weight?
And also, if one wants to go to the gym, why is one self-conscious about oneself about others?
To answer your question about gaining muscle mass, you went about it the wrong way. Creatine only creates creatine phosphate, which in turn transforms into your ATPs for your muscles. This is energy!
All creatine does is give you sufficient energy to go about the gym for extensive periods of time. This does not build body mass, it simply allows you to stay at the gym for longer periods of time, without tireing.
Probably the best way to gain muscle weight is from taking protein. Eggs, peanuts, and all sorts of meat. But one must not forget to hydrate himself. Also, you can't have energy without fruits. So an all around diet of fruits/vegetables, meat, water... ect. Should give you sufficient nutriments.
The only thing is muscle gain is a gradual process and you should not discourage yourself.
