Years ago I got Tivo and started only watching my shows when I wanted to watch them. I've been on a news fast since well before then... no TV, no paper, no online news sites.
I figure if something is important enough to know about, it will find a way to reach me anyway. And if I want to find something out about a particular topic, I can just google it.
