The idea of an afternoon nap is fine. Personally I find it more difficult to sleep during the day, but that's due to environment more than anything.
One thing to keep in mind is that you'll feel refreshed and alert following this nap, but only for 4-5 hours or so (about 5 hours in my case, but I'm sure it varies from person to person). Because of this you might want to keep the nap toward the end of this period; say, 4:15 - 5:45.

The biphasic sleeping won't actually reduce the time it takes to fall asleep (although the sleep itself is deep and refreshing), so this is something to address before making the switch. I wrote a
piece on sleep hygiene recently which may help.
Incidentally, 20 mins isn't too bad. 45 may be a bit much
